Leblon Ocean Set in upscale Leblon, this all-suite hotel has a range of spacious, simply furnished suites, all with kitchen units. There's also a small indoor pool and sauna, and you'll find Rio's best restaurants (and a handful of bars) just outside your door. The rooms vary in size from small to large, some with carpeting, others with pressed wood floors. All of the apartments also have small balconies, adding to the space (though there's no view), and the rooms also have decent lighting. The overall design sense, while popular several decades ago, isn't likely to leave you breathless (though the old, creaky elevator might). Still, for the price, it's hard to beat - especially if you want to escape the tourist throngs of Copacabana, and be in one of Rio's more desirable local neighborhoods. The only catch here is you have to book a minimum of five days.

Residencial Apartt Located in Arpoador between Copa and Ipanema beaches, Residencial Apartt is one of Rio's cheapest all-suite hotels. Although rooms and services here are very basic, it's a pleasant enough spot, and the money you save here will allow you to indulge in the excellent restaurants in neighbouring Ipanema. This old-fashioned hotel doesn't have a whole lot of charm. Apartt's 25 one-bedroom suites have small kitchen units, a tiny rather gloomy lounge room (with cable TV) and a bedroom (with window, so it gets decent lighting). You'll find old wooden flooring in the lounge room, and simple blue carpeting in the bedrooms. But aside from the variation in flooring there's not much happening design-wise in these apartments. The minimal furnishings have a dated look: picture floral patterns in dingy yellows and greens and you're not far from the mark.

Vermont sits smack in the middle of Ipanema's swankiest shopping district, and thanks to the rates at this small budget hotel, you'll have plenty of cash left for conspicuous consumption. Thanks to a recent renovation, all rooms now have tile floors, new furniture, large mirrors, and clean, modern fixtures. Standard rooms face out the back and are simply furnished with two twins or a double bed, a closet, and a desk. Superior rooms are a little more spacious but they also get some street noise, although at night traffic slows down significantly. Most of the rooms have twin beds so if you want a double it's best to reserve in advance. Note that the hotel is a bad choice for those with limited mobility access to the hotel elevators is up one flight of stairs.
